Privacy Policy for SockPuppet
Last Updated: June 21, 2026
Wattage Software ("we," "our," or "us"), owned and operated by Harshana Wattage, respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how the SockPuppet app ("the App") handles information when you use our software.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect, store, sell, rent, or transmit your personal data, browsing history, proxy traffic, DNS history, server configurations, routing rules, subscription URLs, or imported proxy links to Wattage Software servers.
The App is a user-controlled proxy and tunnel utility. It runs on your Mac and lets you configure your own proxy servers, routing rules, DNS settings, and optional rule data.
2. Local Processing and Storage
Your server list, imported share links, subscriptions, routing rules, connection preferences, DNS settings, and app preferences are stored locally on your Mac using local app storage such as UserDefaults and the App Group container used by the main app and its Network Extension.
SockPuppet does not upload these settings to us.
3. Network Extension and Proxy Traffic
SockPuppet uses Apple's Network Extension framework to create a system tunnel when you choose to connect. The tunnel routes traffic according to your selected mode, server, DNS settings, and routing rules.
Traffic is sent only to proxy servers or network destinations configured or selected by you. SockPuppet does not provide VPN servers and does not route your traffic through Wattage Software servers.
Important: if you use a proxy server, subscription provider, DNS resolver, or other network service operated by someone else, that third party may be able to process information associated with the traffic or requests you send through it. Their handling of data is governed by their own privacy policies and practices.
4. Subscription URLs and Share Links
If you add a subscription URL, SockPuppet contacts that URL to download the proxy links contained in the subscription. This request is made only to the subscription URL you provide.
Imported share links and subscription results are stored locally on your Mac. We do not receive a copy of those links.
5. DNS and Geo Data
SockPuppet may use DNS servers that you configure in the App, or default DNS servers if you leave the DNS field blank. DNS behavior depends on your tunnel settings and selected routing mode.
SockPuppet includes GeoIP and GeoSite data for routing rules. If you choose to update geo data, the App downloads updated public rule data from the configured public source and stores it locally in the App Group container. This geo data is used as a local lookup table for routing decisions; it is not a security control and is not sent to Wattage Software.
6. Logs and Diagnostics
SockPuppet may generate local status messages or system logs to help diagnose connection and tunnel behavior. These logs remain on your Mac unless you choose to share them with us for support.
Please review any logs before sending them, because logs may contain technical details such as server names, connection status, or error messages.
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your data to third parties. Since we do not collect your proxy traffic, browsing history, DNS history, server configurations, or routing rules, we do not have that information to transfer or disclose.
8. File Access and Permissions
SockPuppet may request permissions required for its core functionality, such as installing and operating a Network Extension tunnel, accessing its App Group storage, starting at login if you enable that option, and using network access for your configured proxy, subscription, DNS, or geo-data update operations.
Permissions are used only to provide the App's functionality.
9. Children’s Privacy
Our App is not directed at children under four (4). We do not knowingly collect data from children. As we do not collect user data, this policy applies equally to all users regardless of age.
10. Security
Your proxy settings, subscriptions, and rules remain under your control on your Mac. You are responsible for choosing trustworthy proxy servers, subscription providers, and DNS resolvers, and for maintaining the security of your device and accounts.
SockPuppet uses standard Apple platform protections such as App Sandbox and Network Extension entitlements where applicable.
11. Third-Party Services
SockPuppet does not send information to Wattage Software servers. However, the App can connect to third-party services that you choose or configure, including proxy servers, subscription URLs, DNS resolvers, and public geo-data update sources. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or business practices. Updated versions will be posted on our website with a revised "Last Updated" date.
